May has to be one of my favourite months, For me the landscape truly comes alive about now, lush greenery and bursts of colour erupting all around us.
Bluebells and Lily of the Valley two of my favourites grace our gardens and countryside.
This May is of course extra special as we prepare for the Coronation of King Charles III
on 6th May at Westminster Abbey. A king who loves the countryside, who is a passionate gardener and a great advocate for wildflower meadows.
As a tribute to our new king, the RHS is giving its annual National Gardening Week (1-7 May) a coronation theme. Everyone is encouraged to take part even if you only have the smallest window box so plant out your reds, whites and blues and get creative!
This is such a great scheme to introduce people who have never done any gardening, to have a go and experience the joy of growing.
I am looking forward to another great event - RHS Chelsea Flower Show which is running from 23-27th May, at The Royal Hospital Chelsea.
If like me you are looking for a great day out and plenty of inspiration, you won’t be disappointed. There will be plenty to enjoy, fabulous gardens to look at and amazing floral displays that will take your breath away.
This year, there will be a lot of focus on ‘well-being’ gardens and how they have positive effects on our health and well-being.
For the very first time Chelsea in its 110-year history, a ‘Picnic for Children’ will take place at the show. Over 100 children from some of the most disadvantaged areas in the U.K. will be invited to attend and they will enjoy great food and get to see all the gardens as well.
With the lighter, warmer evenings, I look forward to making delicious easy food and refreshing cocktails to enjoy with friends in the garden.
Having three bank holidays this month there will be plenty of time to unwind and enjoy these simple pleasures.
Happy May
Warm regards
Tara
