The RHS Chelsea Flower Show is one of my favourite events of the year and what an amazing show it was this year! A wonderful event that was full of complete inspiration.
I have to say my senses were truly soothed by being among all the gardens full of beautiful flowers, foliage and fragrance.
Hours just slipped away in the Grand Pavilion and I lost myself amongst the roses at the David Austin stand - one of my favourites. I was truly mesmerised by the heady fragrance and beauty of all the delicate roses and the scent was overwhelming.
I was really pleased to have seen the rose varieties I recently ordered from David Austin for a new border I am creating, in their full blooming glory. Also happy to have got some good advice from their expert growers.
This years show I felt had a similar theme running through it - many of the show gardens were very environmentally focused and designed very much around encouraging nature into the garden.
One of my favourite gardens was the one designed by Lulu Urquhart and Adam Hunt-‘A Rewilding Britain Landscape’ a garden inspired by the clever Beaver. It focused on how this furry friend helps improve biodiversity and are known as ‘ecosystem engineers’.
The wonderful garden created by these two designers portrayed how ecosystem engineering done by animals like the Beaver can have such positive affects on nature.
As well as beautifully inspiring gardens there were plenty of stands showcasing great arts and crafts as well as fabulous sculptures and amazing water features for the garden.
I had a wonderful day and I am really looking forward to the next floral event coming in July.
